What is Euphemism?

Euphemism - is a pleasant word or phrase used in place of a harsher word or phrase.

Examples:

Instead of "old person" you may use "senior citizen".
Instead of "used car" you may use "pre-owned vehicle".

Other examples:

• torture - enchanced interrogation
• toilet room - rest room
• garbage dump - sanitary landfill
• prison - correctional facility
• toilet paper - bathroom tissue
