Different Ways of Cooking Foods

Cooking is a useful quality of a good homemaker. It deals with food preparation. The purpose of cooking are: to kill germs that might be present in the foods which may cause disease; to improve the taste of the food; and to make it easy to digest.

Here are the different ways of cooking food;

Boiling - cooking food in water at a boiling point, as in the preparation of nilagang baboy

Simmering - cooking in water heated to a degree below the boiling point, mainly for the purpose of tenderizing

Frying - cooking in deep or shallow fat

Sauteing - cooking in a little fat with some seasoning

Broiling - cooking over live charcoal

Toasting - browning bread or any food over direct fire

Parboiling - boiling until partly cook

Stewing - cooking by boiling slowly

Braising - cooking by browning in fat and then simmering in a covered pan with a little liquid

Steaming - cooking by means of vapor, using steamer

Baking - cooking by dry heat, especially in an oven
